Tecnology 4 - A Kit for Parentage Verification in Goat (Capra Hircus)

1.Current IP Status: Complete application filed on 8th January 2013.

2.Technology introduction and description: The goats give birth to twin, triplets and even quadruplets are not uncommon. The present invention relates to a kit for determining parentage in goats using distinct microsatellite loci. The microsatellite loci were selected as set forth below and may be used in any type of parentage testing in which allelic variation is used to determine the likelihood of parentage. One skilled in the art will be able to select alternative methods of detecting specific alleles which result in a desired level of overall parentage certainly.

3.Benefits, usefulness, problem solving, business opportunities from the technology to the Client(s):

  • The developed kit utilises a single multiplex PCR reaction-has 14 genetic markers.
  • The kit has a very high probability of exclusion.
  • The kit has been developed using large goats populations from all parts of the country and has performed well in amplification of DNA from vast and varied geographical locations- all markers are polymorphic and exhibit heterozygosity.
  • The kit has been tested on 135 kids belonging to 53 parents in four Indian goat breeds.
  • This is the first kit of DNA based markers for parentage/paternity testing in goats.
4.Prospective Client(s)/ Investors of the Technology: The clients for the technology are the farmers having goats and wish to carry out the parentage verification.

5.Expected price of the Technology: Negotiable .
