Tecnology 1 - A Kit for Parentage Verification in Zebu Cattle (Bos indicus)

1.Current IP Status: Complete application filed on 22nd December 2011 to Indian Patent Office, New Delhi.

2.Technology introduction and description: The present procedures meant for parentage verification as maintenance of pedigree records etc. are subject to human errors and thus cannot be relied upon. No molecular based technology is available till date to answer the correctness of the parentage of the progeny or identity of the daughters in Indian Zebu cattle (Bos indicus). The present technology relates to the preparation of a kit consisting of 15 microsatellite markers amplifiable in a single multiplex reaction and covers the zebu cattle of different geographical regions of India.

3.Benefits, usefulness, problem solving, business opportunities from the technology to the Client(s):

  • This is the first kit of DNA based markers for parentage/paternity testing in zebu cattle.
  • The developed kit utilises a single multiplex PCR reaction-has 15 genetic markers.
  • The kit has markers which provide a very high probability of exclusion.
  • The kit has been developed and tested using zebu populations from different geographical regions of the India. All markers selected for the kit are highly polymorphic and exhibit high heterozygosity.
4.Prospective Client(s)/ Investors of the Technology: Farmers having exotic cattle, indigenous cattle and their crosses and wish to carry out the parentage verification.

5.Expected price of the Technology: Negotiable .
